Freedom and Domination in the Colonial Present: Images, Fictions, Theories

A seminar series hosted by the Department of Media and Communications

We invite participants to join us in a film and discussion mini-series in media and communications. The series aims to open a space for debate around the use of key terms, including: colonialism, postcolonialism, the decolonial and decolonisation, as well as race, modernity, representation, power, identity, and the image. We are interested to explore the critical purchase of these terms in contexts of freedom and domination and hope to stimulate a located and reflexive dialogue among researchers and postgraduates.

Film screenings will start at 5pm, to be followed by a short break and seminar discussion. All meetings will take place in The Silverstone Room (TW3.7.01A). For assistance with the reading materials, please contact the respective seminar organisers.

Please ensure you book a seat.

Organised by Sarah Cefai, César Jimenez & Ana Lomtadze.
