POLIS, the journalism and society forum that Roger Silverstone helped set up at LSE and in conjunction with the London College of Communication, has established the Silverstone Fellowship according to the principles that guided his thinking.
We are delighted to announce that the Silverstone Fund has been given a starting gift of £100,000 by the London School of Economics
Roger wanted to bring the highest quality of academic scrutiny to bear on the challenges that journalism faces in a world where the media has a critical role in helping people to understand the many threats to the global community.
The Silverstone Fund will provide an annual opportunity for an international journalist to apply for a major research fellowship looking at global journalism and society.
More information on POLIS and the Silverstone Fellowship can be found here: http://www.lse.ac.uk/collections/polis/.
Roger's family and his colleagues here in the Department of Media and Communications believe that the Fellowship is exactly the sort of concrete, positive and imaginative initiative that he would have supported. We hope you will, too.
Please feel free to contact Charlie Beckett, Director of POLIS or Robin Mansell, Head of Department of Media and Communications, if you wish to discuss the Silverstone Fund and the Fellowship in more detail. If you wish to contribute directly, please use the attached forms (Donation Form and Standing Order Form).
