Research Interests: Quantitative research methods, research design, digital selfhood, issues pertinent to Big Data, health-related decision-making, self-tracking, media-induced distracted driving, power and visibility, media representation of the Roma minority

Biography 

Svetlana joined the Department of Media and Communication in 2015. Her four-year PhD research project is fully funded by an LSE PhD Studentship. She spent her previous academic year honing her research skills, reading and working towards an MPhil in Sociology (Distinction) at the University of Cambridge. Her research focused on the health communication and nutritional practices of low-income single-mothers in England. In 2014, Svetlana graduated with Distinction from LSE’s MSc in Media and Communication (Research Track). She also completed a two-year research-oriented MA degree at Simon Fraser University, graduating with Distinction. Svetlana holds a BA degree (Distinction) in both Communication and International Studies from Simon Fraser University, Vancouver, Canada.

Teaching experience

Svetlana has two years of teaching experience. She served as a Teaching Assistant on a variety of courses ranging from Introduction to Communication Studies and Introduction to Information Technology: The New Media to Empirical Communication Research Methods and Approaches to Media and Audience Research (Quantitative). At present, Svetlana supervises students enrolled in the Media, Culture and Society module at the Department of Sociology, University of Cambridge. Svetlana has served as a Research Assistant on a variety of empirical projects from studies on health communication to exploration of aspects of creative industries.
