Although our weekly Media Agenda Talks have come to an end for this academic year, we still have a host of exciting speakers and events coming up in 2013, mostly notably our Annual Polis Journalism Conference.

There has always been some gap between rich and poor but it has never been wider - and now the rich are getting wealthier at such breakneck speed that the middle classes are being squeezed out. Acclaimed business journalist and global editor-at-large of Reuters, Chrystia Freeland has unprecedented access to the richest and most successful people on the planet, from Davos to Dubai. She offers a timely insight into the current state of capitalism and its most wealthy players. Forget the 1% - it's time to get to grips with the 0.1%. This event marks the publication of her latest book Plutocrats: The Rise of the New Global Super Rich.
Chrystia Freeland is Editor of Thomson Reuters Digital, following years of service at the Financial Times both in New York and London. She was the deputy editor of Canada's Globe and Mail and has reported for the Financial Times, Economist, and Washington Post. Freeland's last book was Sale of a Century: The Inside Story of the Second Russian Revolution. She lives in New York City.

What do people say about medicines on social networks, and what can both patients and pharmaceutical companies learn from this? This new Polis event, Marketing Medicine Online: Social Media and Pharma will present research by Polis and Human Digital trying to answer these questions.
Speakers include Katherine Relle, LSE alum and winner of the Human Digital Prize, Christian Gladwell from Human Digital, Jamie Bartlett from Demos, and John Gerow from Astra Zeneca.

As a senior lecturer in the LSE’s Department of Media and Communications, Dr. Shani Orgad’slatest book, Media Representation and the Global Imagination (Polity), will be the focus of a panel discussion on the ways in which we imagine the world, how its ‘others’ are nourished by the media, and how the media can offer different images and accounts from the ones we encounter.
Debate panellists include Dr. Shani Orgad; Saskia Sassen, the Robert S. Lynd Professor of Sociology and Co-Chair Committee on Global Thought at Columbia University; Laurie Taylor, consultant, newspaper and magazine contributor, and presenter of BBC Radio 4’s Thinking Allowed; and will be chaired by Charlie Beckett, Head of the Media and Communications Department and Director of POLIS.
A reception will follow from 8-9pm.

|Polis' Annual Journalism Conference| will take place on Friday, April 5th, 2013 in the coming year.
Investigative journalist Nick Davies will be the keynote speaker at this year's Polis Journalism Conference on 'Trust in Journalism'. As both an accomplished journalist and writer, Davies, who has written extensively for the Observer and the Guardian, was a key figure in exposing the News of the World phone-hacking scandal in July of 2011. Other panel debates include Trust and the BBC, Trust in Newspapers, Trust in Europe and Trust in Power, as well as workshop sessions on regulating trust and data journalism, among others.
