Programme content and structure

The programme is designed around two compulsory core courses, along with a 6,000-word dissertation. 

Students also customise their programme according to their own interests, and benefit from a truly interdisciplinary learning experience, by choosing up to three optional elective courses from the wide range of world-leading academic departments across the LSE.

Students can expect to receive at least 165 contact hours (lecture and class time) during the programme.

Programme structure:


Compulsory courses  

  • MG414 Public Management and Governance  (1.0 unit) examines organisationally-based processes under public governance from a general management standpoint, and examine functional areas of organisational management as they relate to the public sector.
  • MG415 Policy Analysis, Evaluation and Implementation (1.0 unit) focuses on how analysis needs to take account of, and be designed to relate to, the processes through which policies are made.
  • MG499 Dissertation  (0.5 unit) 6,000-word dissertation related to a topic from the above courses.
