Programme details

The EGMiM concept

Our faculty have designed this unique Master’s programme as LSE’s cutting-edge alternative to an MBA, providing an optimum balance between intelligent critical thinking and real-world practice.

Currently the only programme of its kind in the world, EGMiM covers the same essential curriculum as a traditional MBA - the essential pillars of business, including general management, accounting, finance, marketing and organisational behaviour - but takes a fresh approach to these topics.

In contrast to traditional 'experiential' learning utilised by many MBAs, where learning is focused on students' prior practical experience in the workplace, the EGMiM programme flips this learning style on its head. We offer a more intellectual learning experience, using theory and deep critical thinking as the basis for learning, which is then linked into practical projects and case studies. Students access original management research and theories by reading academic journal articles. Not only are they required to understand the materials, but theymust also critically analyse and apply them to practical situations in the workplace.

The unique intellectual skills gained from the EGMiM learning approach will empower students to become adaptable and innovative in the ever-changing global environment, setting themselves apart to move faster and further in the business world in top-level senior management and leadership careers.

We are ranked #2 in the world for social science and management, and our students benefit from the outstanding LSE learning experience. Hand-in-hand with this, EGMiM also retains the practical application, teamwork and prestigious networking opportunities fundamental to leading business programmes.

Rather than simply learning how to apply current management tools, our students learn to be innovative, culturally intelligent critical thinkers with a well-rounded intellectual and practical skills set. Our graduates set themselves apart for success in the globalised business world, with the talent to adapt and innovate with the fast-paced, complex global environment across a lifelong career

Modular format for working professionals

EGMiM is designed for full-time working professionals, so our students don’t need to take a break from their career in order to study.

Teaching is conducted in 7 short (1-2 week) intensive classroom modules, requiring a maximum of 9 weeks out of the office over the 17-month programme duration. The modules draw direct practical learning from contrasting business cultures across the world, located in London, Beijing and Bangalore.

In between modules, students continue to work full-time in their home location, with access to a learning technology platform which will complement the in-class sessions and maximise intersession communication. The modules are designed to be directly applicable to students’ work, meaning that learning from the classroom can be brought back to make valuable developments and innovations in the workplace from day one.

Students can live and work anywhere in the world while participating in the programme, and typically we welcome around 20-25 different nationalities to each yearly cohort.
