Visiting Senior Fellow

A political scientist by trade and a practising manager for many years, Roger has research interests in the fields of public management, the management and reform of EU institutions and programmes, financial management of EU programmes, performance management, and the dynamics of popular political movements and public opinion. He has authored over 70 publications and 60 conference presentations. He is a fervent supporter of rigour in empirical analysis and the integrity of data, professional training and innovation in teaching, quality review by external peers, inter-departmental collaboration, and Tottenham Hotspur - in other words, lost causes generally.

Before joining LSE in his capacity of Visiting Senior Fellow, he was (in reverse order) Head of the Department of Political Science at Memorial University, Director of the Graduate Academy of Business and Head of the Division of Management at Caledonian Business School, Acting Dean of the Faculty of Management and Head of the School of Public Administration and Law at The Robert Gordon University in Aberdeen. He was also Visiting Professor at the European Institute of Public Administration in Maastricht and in the Department of Economics at the University of Cagliari

He has served as a chief national examiner, an external examiner and a curriculum advisor, he has been a special advisor to the House of Lords Select Committee on the European Communities, and a consultant to the European Commission and various other clients. He has an extensive record of course design and innovation in business and management education, and active in relevant professional associations.

Roger is also a governor at a primary school near his home, a moderate busybody in his community and a volunteer dog walker par excellence.
