Dr Rachel Alexander is a Research Officer working on the project: Changes in the Governance of Garment Global Production Networks: Lead Firm, Supplier and Institutional Responses to the Rana Plaza Disaster (www.garmentgov.de). This project involves collaborators in the UK, Germany, Sweden, Australia and Bangladesh. It seeks to understand the challenges of improving labour standards in global production networks by triangulating the perspectives of lead firms, suppliers and workers in the context of ongoing institutional innovations in the Bangladesh garment industry.
Rachel holds a PhD in Development Policy and Management from the Global Development Institute, University of Manchester and an MA in Community Development and Environmental Studies from the University of Toronto. Across positions based in Canada, Austria, Ghana, India and the United Kingdom, Rachel has worked on research and implementation of programmes and projects related to sustainable business, small business support and industrial policy. Rachel has provided consulting services for a variety of organisations including UNIDO, the Inter-American Development Bank and the Indian Council for Research on International Economic Relations.
