Research Officer
Biography
Dr Dickson is a Research Officer, using her anthropological research skills on the D3 project, investigating the digital materiality of medicines. This is a two-year, Research Councils UK funded project into the ways that medicines have become hybrid products – part active chemical, part information (data) and part services (algorithms, software, apps).
Previously, she has had a varied career: running her own retail business and hiring and training retail managers for a national chain before earning a degree in visual anthropology at Temple University, in Philadelphia, USA. She completed an MA in material, visual and digital anthropology at University College London and during her PhD research into green roofs she discovered a rare delight at climbing onto and over the roofscapes of London.
Dr Dickson has a wide research portfolio, including experience researching with local historical re-enactors, knitting and crafting groups, the Transition Towns Network and other environmental groups and also with local authorities. She has also worked in the private sector doing research into parks and open spaces and volunteers time for Urban Wild, in South London.
