He has published in academic journals, such as the Journal of Occupational and Organizational Psychology, Journal of Personality Assessment, Journal of Research in Personality, and Research Synthesis Methods.

Dr Thomas conducts research on competition and rivalry, with a focus on understanding how competition influences identity, and how rival relationships relate to cooperative and competitive behaviours. His research also focuses on employee voice, and understanding when and why employees take on risks associated with speaking up to leaders to discuss problems.

Prior to pursuing his PhD, he was a consultant in leadership development, employee selection, and training in government, education, and manufacturing sectors.
