Canadian Embassy hosts inaugural alumni networking evening

The Deputy High Commissioner of Canada welcomed students and alumni of LSE’s Executive Global Master’s in Management (EGMiM) to the Canadian Embassy in London for a drinks reception on 3 September 2015.

Over 70 organisations across a range of sectors, from banking to luxury goods, were represented by current and former students at Canada House in Trafalgar Square for the inaugural EGMiM alumni networking evening. The programme which was founded in 2012 as an alternative to an MBA has seen student places rise by 83% in the past two years, of which 45% of the current student body are female.

Addressing an audience of 37 nationalities Alan Kessel, Deputy High Commissioner of Canada, announced that the world’s second largest nation was “ready to support the next generation of entrepreneurs” with its attractive Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) strategy and encouraged the EGMiM community to consider Canada as an opportunity for investment.

Kessel’s speech coincided with the teaching of an LSE module on Foreign Direct Investment and Emerging Markets, which forms one of the ten courses on the 17-month programme taught across three continents.

The first three EGMiM cohorts studied modules delivered by LSE professors in Singapore and Istanbul, whereas the class of 2017 will travel to India and China. The curriculum and location of modules evolves every year in response to global business trends.

Speaking at the event, Professor Saul Estrin, the Programme Director of EGMiM, acknowledged alumni who had travelled from Greece and India to attend the evening’s event, commenting that: “the EGMiM community is a growing international social network, for which tonight’s reception provides a footprint for the future.”
