Panel abstract
The session will discuss the complex position of ICT for development (ICT4D), as a field at the interface between mainstream IS and the broader domain of development studies. The composite nature of the field makes it ideal for discussing theoretical innovation, a theme that matters profoundly to the construction of diverse and relevant scientific contributions. Our panellists’ profound experience in ICT4D research will be paramount in exploring theoretical innovation, and its consequences for academic practice in this composite discipline. Relying on fieldwork in sites as diverse as India, China and South Africa, the panel will combine an intellectual journey with a physical one indeed, which will take us around the core fields of ICT adoption in the developing world.
