e-Government

In March 2004 the Department of Information Systems at the London School of Economics and Political Science hosted its 4th workshop on the Social Study of ICT. The workshop took place on 22 and 23 March 2004 at the LSE campus in London, U.K. Successful SSIT workshops in the past three years have addressed issues of infrastructure, network society, globalisation and organising with knowledge. For SSIT4 our theme is e-Government.

The workshop provided a timely opportunity to reflect on one of the most significant and potentially important new directions for the deployment of ICTs. Within information systems this is perhaps most explicit in the rapid growth of research activity in the field, with the search for appropriate theoretical and strategic understanding of the topic backed by increasing empirical research.

The workshop provided stimulating presentations, provocative panels and lively debate. It explored e-government by drawing on contributions from within the IS field, from other social science disciplines, from policy makers and from practitioners. Following the successful format established in the earlier SSIT workshops, the programme mixed presentations from members of the Department, LSE colleagues from other Departments and distinguished invited speakers. The aim was to provide a valuable opportunity for a multidisciplinary group to debate their research and to be exposed to various theoretical and practical perspectives.

The workshop took place in the Hong Kong Theatre, Ground Floor, Clement House.
