Commonwealth Hall

NOTE: Canterbury, Commonwealth and Hughes Parry Halls are scheduled to close for refurbishment during the two academic years 2014/15 and 2015/16. They will re-open in September 2016.

No other University of London halls are affected.

Opened with the aid of a gift of £250,000.00 from the Wolfson Foundation, the hall provides 431 spaces for male and female students. Students (mainly undergraduate) are accommodated in 398 single study bedrooms and 11 double sets with 2 bedrooms and a shared study and sitting room.


Commonwealth Hall is situated in Cartwright Gardens, within easy walking distance of LSE.

Contract length

Residents at Commonwealth Hall have a 40-week contract covering the Christmas and Easter vacations.
