Introducing Library Search

What is Library Search?

Use Library Search to discover books, journals, journal articles, theses, research papers, government materials and much more.

  • Search for article level content
  • Refine searches through the use of facets and filters
  • Manage your Library loans
  • Place requests for books on loan to another user
  • Place interlending requests

Does Library Search include all resources?

Library Search covers the majority of our resources. However,  it does not include LSE Archives and Special Collections. Search for those through LSE Archives Catalogue

Similarly there are specialist subject resources that are not included, e.g. Westlaw and Historical Newspapers. Use the Library Subject Guides to learn more of key subject resources that you should use in conjunction with Library Search for your research.

How do I search Library Search?

Simply start from the Library homepage and input subject words, title words or authors in to the search box.

You can limit your search to Library Collections (books and journals) or to Articles (full text content online).

Alternatively use the Advanced Search for more complex searches or Browse Search for specific title or author searches.

For more on searching, see Discover collections with Library Search

Why should I sign in to Library Search?

LSE staff and students will benefit from signing in with your LSE username and password as more functionality will be available to you.

Once signed in, renew your books, place requests for books on loan, save your searches and save results to your e-Shelf for future reference.

Can non-LSE users sign in?

Alumni and external borrowers can not currently sign in. Contact us directly to renew or request material.

All other visitors can use Library Search as a Guest.

Select Sign in on the top right of Library Search.
