The majority of the Library's collections are available on open access. However there are certain collections which due to their unique nature, size or rarity are located in on-site closed access storage, e.g. LSE PhD theses.
Items that are stored in this way are identified on our catalogue – there is a button displayed at the bottom of the relevant records that says 'Fetch'.
Library users are able to order material for consultation from closed access storage by searching for the relevant items and clicking on the Fetch button. They will then be directed to fill in the online order form- you may place up to three fetch requests at a time.
Library staff carry out fetches from the closed access storage areas daily at the following times:
11: 00am, 1: 00pm, 3: 00pm. (Monday-Saturday.)
The requested items can then be collected from the service counter at least 60 minutes later and will be held there until the end of the day (or the date specified).
Items can only be used within the Library and must be returned to the Service counter before it closes.
Please note: If for any reason the online request system is not operating, material can still be obtained by filling in paper request forms at the Service counter.
