Membership information for LSE users

New students

Your LSE card is your Library and School ID card.

New students (including intercollegiate students) receive their cards from the Student Services Centre after they have registered with the School.

New staff

All contracts should be signed and returned to human resources before you visit the Library to collect your new staff card.

Before making your visit to the Library, it is advisable that you confirm with HR that your details have been added to the School database (ex 6659). In addition you can contact the Library Membership team who can check if your Staff card is ready to print.

For your convenience we advise collecting your staff card before 10.30am Monday - Friday when we are not open to the public. Please note that library staff have no control over the generation of your card and will only be able to issue a staff ID card when HR have processed your contract. 

Associate staff

For visiting academics or agency staff, the Library can provide an Associate staff ID card. Departments are required to complete our Associate Request Form. An email confirmation will be sent when the card is ready for collection. Associate applications will be processed by the end of the following working day. 

LSE Alumni

To qualify for Alumni membership to the Library, applicants must have been registered on an LSE course for a minimum of one term.

Please visit the membership desk between 9am and 5pm Monday to Friday to exchange your student card for Alumni status. Bring your existing student card as ID if possible.

Please note, Alumni status does not provide off site access to Library E-resources

You will need to collect your alumni card from our Membership desk. Please bring personal ID with you on your visit.
