Membership

Membership for visitors 

  • Students and staff from UK universities and colleges may apply for membership through our reciprocal schemes. 
  • Private researchers carrying out non-commercial research may apply for reference access to the Library if they can show a need to access our collections.
  1. Complete the registration form.
  2. We will automatically confirm receipt by email.
  3. Wait for a second email from our team before coming to the membership desk.

Restricted access during examination period

Access to the Library will be restricted from Monday 4 April to Sunday 5 June inclusive for: 

  • members of the public
  • undergraduates
  • masters students

These restrictions will also apply to current card holders. 

In special cases, temporary access may be provided if visitors show a need to access the Library's collections during this period.

Provision will be made for visitors wishing to consult archives and special collections. 

LSE Alumni and Associate staff will not be affected by this restriction. 

Staff and research degree students (MPhil, PhD) from other universities who have applied through our existing reciprocal schemes (University of London, SCONUL Access and M25) will not be affected. 

Membership for LSE users 

LSE staff, students, associates and alumni Full-time LSE staff and students are automatically members of the Library. Associate Staff and LSE Alumni can apply for membership to use the Library's services with some conditions.  
 

Using other libraries

Using other libraries
You can search Library catalogues from all over the world to identify material. If you can't get to the holding Library, you can request material via our Interlending Service .
