Intergovernmental publications

The Library has major collections of publications from intergovernmental international organisations including many statistical publications.

Major collections for Africa include:

African Development Bank|

Supports economic and financial development. Key publications include African Statistical Yearbook| published annually by African Development Bank in association with the African Union which includes social, demographic, economic and financial data, also individual country reports. Reports from 2007onwards are free online|. Many issues in stock in the library

Commonwealth Secretariat|

Regularly publishes papers on its activities in Commonwealth nations. Key topics include economic and social development, education, gender equality and election monitoring. Free access to some materials from its website. Books acquired in print by the Library filed at CS on the 1st floor.

Economic Commission for Africa (ECA)|

Established in 1958 as a regional body of the United Nations. Wide-ranging remit. Its website provides free access to reports and statistics.

Key publications include the annual Economic Report on Africa, regular reports on women, regional integration and progress towards the Millennium Development Goals. Issues available in the Library in the UN collection.

IMF|

Produces a number of regional economic outlooks which include the "Regional Economic Outlook : Sub-Saharan Africa" which is available on the website from 2002 onwards. It is also held at IMF (R21) on the 1st floor of the Library.

OECD |Produces the Annual African Economic Outlook in association with African Development Bank, the |OECD Development Centre|, the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa|. This  covers over 50 nations, includes profiles and cross country and cross time analysis. Some materials online. UNDP|

United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) commissions the Human Development Report series. It aims to assess the political, economic and social well being of populations. Its website provides free access to hundreds of national and international reports many of which cover Africa and individual African nations. Materials from 1990 onwards. Copies also in print in the Library

World Bank|

Publishes African Development Indicators.| It contains more than 500 macroeconomic, sectoral, and social indicators, covering over 50 African countries with data from 1965 onwards. Free datasets online at data.worldbank.org.| These also include the more general World Development Indicators |series. Print copies in the Library at IBRD (HA155).

Maps from Syria

UNITAR (UN satellite) specialises in refugee war zone data. Latest releases are Syria refugee camps|. The UN cartographic section| also has general and peace keeping maps for Syria. The latter are dated early July 2012.

The Perry-Castañeda Library Map Collection| have links to maps of fighting in the region, including Syria, compiled from CIA collections and news services such as the BBC which are user generated via Google. Check the date of production as some are historic.
