This film travels the landscapes of North Eastern Colombia in search of the spirit of magical realism. Gabriel Garcia Marquez was interviewed in Havana, Cuba where he was then President of the Latin American Film Foundation. He tells of his dream of being a filmmaker and of the uneasy relation between film images and the written word, between characters in a novel and their 'impostors' on screen. Realities collide as images flow from films based on his stories, from Colombia itself and from his vibrant and comic imagination. The film won first prize in the foreign documentary section at the Havana Film Festival.
Holly Aylett is director of the film and also Managing Editor of Vertigo magazine. Stephen Hart is Professor of Hispanic Studies at University College London and has published widely on Latin American film and literature.
