French is taught at LSE as part of our undergraduate degree programmes and as an extra curricular course available to all LSE staff, students, researchers and academics.
The expertise of our experienced teaching team is also used on our Summer Language Programme...a range of short but sweet Summer Language Courses.
A short introductory course for absolute beginners. You will have no knowledge of French but wish to have an introduction to the basics and learn some language at survival level. The course consists of 18 hours of classes.
An intensive introductory course for absolute beginners. You will have no previous knowledge of French. The course consists of 30 hours of classes. Once you will have completed this level you will be able to joing our MFL Certificate Course programme at Level 2.
A short re-introduction course to French. You will have previously taken a beginners course or maybe studied at School a number of years ago and wish to take a refresher course to restore your confidence. You will have checked with the French Teacher of this course J.L.Souvignet@lse.ac.uk if this course is appropriate before registering. The course consists of 18 hours of classes.
A short restarter course in French. You will have previously studied at School (A-level or equivalent) a number of years ago and wish to take a refresher course to restore your confidence. You will have already contacted Jean Souvignet J.L.Souvignet@lse.ac.uk, the French Co-ordinator for these courses before registering to make sure the course is appropriate to you. This course will offer an approach to written translation and develop your ability to analyse and translate a variety of texts through the stylistic analysis and comparison of French and English language. You will learn to analyse the structures of the languages used and to solve translation problems involving syntax, style, terminology etc.. You will work on practical translations from English and French texts from a variety of sources (specific text types or domains: press articles, Humanities, Law…). You will need to have a good understanding of both English and French, including grammar, writing skills and cultural aspects. The course consists of 12 hours of classes. You will have already contacted Jean Souvignet J.L.Souvignet@lse.ac.uk, the French Co-ordinator for these courses before registering to make sure the course is appropriate to you.
