The Language Centre here at the London School of Economics reflects the specialist nature of the School itself, namely, a world class institution where the quality of teaching and research is paramount.

LSE is not just a multi-national university but also a multi-lingual one.

To read this policy please see the LSE Language Policy.

Modern Foreign Language Programmes

Take a language course as a fully assessed part of an undergraduate degree. We can also offer extra curricular options via our our MFL Certificate Courses.

English Language Programmes

Foundation and Presessional programmes are available for prospective students and a comprehensive Insessional programme is in place to support current students throughout their time at LSE.

Linguistics and Literature Degree Programmes

If you are an undergraduate student and wish to study how linguistics and literature fit into the framework of Society and Politics you should consider these options. Our literature programme is taught by Dr Angus Wrenn and Dr Olga Sobolev and our linguistic option by Dr Peter Skrandies

Most of our courses are scheduled courses running throughout the academic year. However, we do at times run short courses available to the LSE community only, for example our Learning Support workshops. These courses use the LSE Training System for sign up.

Staff Contacts and Office Hours

Everyone who works at the Language Centre should be listed here along with their contact details and, if appropriate, office hours. Please feel free to contact languages@lse.ac.uk if you have any questions about anything though.

Governance of the Language Centre

The Language Centre is part of the Academic and Professional Development Division (APD). This Division combines the strengths of the Teaching and Learning Centre (TLC), Language Centre and LSE 100  who work together to help maximise the academic and professional development of staff and students.

Feedback is important to us and whilst there are opportunities throughout the year for you to let us know what you think about us outside these times you can also use our Instant Feedback Form which is there all year round.
