Intensive Pre-sessional Programmes

Pre-sessional Intensive Course in English (LN904 Extended)

If you have applied to LSE you should consider these courses to make sure you are fully prepared before you start your studies. Please see the course outline below for full details.

  • This programme has 20 hours weekly contact time
  • Standard 10 week programme
  • Geared to the specific needs of Social Science students
  • Classes organised between 10:00-15:30 Monday-Friday

This course is suitable for students with either conditional or unconditional offers from LSE. 

If you have an offer which is conditional upon meeting English language requirements, you must submit an IELTS (International English Language Testing System) certificate showing that you are within one band of those requirements to be eligible for LN904.  This certificate must be less than two years old.

For example, if you have to fulfil the Standard Graduate English language requirements you will need to show that you have an minimum IELTS score of 6.0 overall, with a minimum of 5.5 in reading and listening and 5.0 in speaking and writing.

If you have to meet the Higher Graduate English language requirements you will need to show that you have an minimum IELTS score of 6.0 overall, with a minimum of 5.5 in reading, listening and writing and 5.0 in speaking. 

If you have to meet the requirements for Law you will need to show that you have an minimum IELTS score of 6.5 overall, with a minimum of 5.5 in reading, 6.0 in listening and writing and 5.0 in speaking.

Pre-sessional Intensive Course in English (LN905 Standard)

If you have applied to LSE you should consider these courses to make sure you are fully prepared before you start your studies. Please see the course outline below for full details.

  • This programme has 20 hours weekly contact time
  • Standard 5 week programme
  • Geared to the specific needs of Social Science students
  • Classes organised between 10:00-15:30 Monday-Friday

This course is suitable for students with either conditional or unconditional offers from LSE. 

If you have an offer which is conditional upon meeting English language requirements, you must submit an IELTS (International English Language Testing System) certificate showing that you are within half a band of those requirements to be eligible for LN905.  This certificate must be less than two years old.

For example, if you have to fulfil the Standard Graduate English language requirements you will need to show that you have an minimum IELTS score of 6.5 overall, with a minimum of 6.0 in reading and listening and 5.5 in speaking and writing.

If you have to meet the Higher Graduate English language requirements you will need to show that you have an minimum IELTS score of 6.5 overall, with a minimum of 6.0 in reading, listening and writing and 5.5 in speaking. 

If you have to meet the requirements for Law you will need to show that you have an minimum IELTS score of 7.0 overall, with a minimum of 6.0 in reading, 6.5 in listening and writing and 5.5 in speaking.

Pre-sessional Intensive Course in English (LN906 Short)

If you have applied to LSE you should consider these courses to make sure you are fully prepared before you start your studies. Please see the course outline below for full details.

  • This programme has 20 hours weekly contact time
  • Short 2 week programme
  • Suitable for unconditional LSE offer holders
  • Geared to the specific needs of Social Science students
  • Classes organised between 10:00-15:30 Monday-Friday

This course is only suitable for students with unconditional offers from LSE.

EAP for Law: Subject Specific Programme (LN907 Law)

This programme has 20 hours weekly contact time and is geared to those students who already have a high level of English Language competence (e.g. IELTS 7.5) and would like to concentrate on the English and skills specific to their forthcoming Law programme at LSE.

This course is only suitable for students with unconditional offers from the LSE Law Department.

How to apply

Use the online Pre-sessional English Application Form and make sure you select the course you wish to take e.g. LN904, LN905, LN906 or LN907.
