Adam is a Visiting Research Fellow at the Latin America and Caribbean Centre of LSE and a Research Fellow at the Centre for Trust, Peace and Social Relations at the University of Coventry. He is also Associate Expert for Rapid Response to the UNDP for Latin American and the Caribbean and an Expert to the Research Executive Agency at the European Commission.

Adam is a trained ethnographer and masculinities expert, with a background in peace studies. He focuses on urban violence and insecurity, using masculinities as a lens to understand gangs across the Latin America and Caribbean region. He has researched issues of citizen security, development, and forms of civic participation to promote violence reduction. His research spans Colombia, Central America and the Caribbean, and has been funded by the ESRC, AHRC, OSF, IDRC, SSRC, UNDP, British Academy and the Leverhulme Trust.

He is currently working on the Caribbean and is the principal investigator of two research projects running into 2018:

• Breaking Bad: how transnational drug trafficking creates violent masculinities in local Caribbean communities in Port of Spain and is funded by ESRC/AHRC Trans-National Organised Crime Cross-disciplinary Innovation Grants programme.
• From transnational crime to local insecurity: how drug-trafficking penetrates communities and creates violent masculinities in Belize, funded by the British Academy and the Leverhulme Trust.
