How to contact us

Staff in the Student Services Centre  can answer general questions or refer you on to specialist teams as appropriate.

The Dean of the General Course can answer queries specifically about the General Course. The best way to contact him is gc.dean@lse.ac.uk

If your query is related to fees, financial support, immigration or admissions, you may be referred to specialist drop-in sessions.

General Course Welcome

We would like to welcome all General Course students to LSE and hope you'll have a wonderful experience studying with us. There are many people here to help you throughout the year. Your first point of contact after your departmental tutor is the Dean for the General Course, Mr Mark Hoffman.  He is located in room OLD 1.09 in the Old Building and can be contacted on gc.dean@lse.ac.uk or 020 7107 5197.

General Course Welcome Presentation

A welcome presentation for new General Course students with the Dean for the General Course will take place on:

Tuesday 20th September, from 3:30-5:30pm, Old Theatre (Old Building).

This session provides information that will help you get the most out of your time at the School.

General Course boat party

All General Course students are invited to join us for a boat cruise down the Thames. This ice breaker will give students a chance to get to know each other whilst enjoying food, drink, music and the sights of London.  Further details of all the social events organised for General Course students can be found on the Social calendar (when it is published during the summer of 2016).

Tuesday 20th September, 6:30pm (don’t be late!)

Meeting location: Tower Pier (closest Tube station: Tower Hill)

Departmental Welcome Week events

Academic departments also hold welcome meetings, some of which are specifically for General Course students.  Please see the Welcome Week events webpage for further details.

Off Campus Support Scheme

General Course students who will not live in LSE halls of residence will be allocated a Off Campus Support Mentor to help them settle in and find out more about LSE from a student perspective.  For more information, see LSE Off Campus Support Scheme.

Study skills

Study Skills sessions open to all LSE students are offered by LSE LIFE, covering a range of topics such as writing essays, taking lecture notes, and giving class presentations. General Course students are strongly encouraged to take full advantage of these sessions. Full details of the programme will be available on the LSE LIFE website with reminder notices emailed to General Course students on a weekly basis.

General Course advice sessions

Mark Hoffman, the Dean for the General Course, would like to meet with each General Course student at least once during your first few weeks at the School.  Accordingly, he will be holding 'drop-in' office hours during Weeks 1 and 2 of the Michaelmas Term at which you are encouraged to ask any questions or share any initial problems you may have.  There is no need to make an appointment to see Mark during this period.  Just come to his office in room OLD 1.09 (first floor of the Old Building)

Mark's open office hours for Welcome Week will be updated here shortly before Welcome Week.
