Datuk Roger Tan Memorial Scholarship

The Datuk Roger Tan Memorial Scholarship is established by the ECM Libra Foundation to honour the former London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE) law graduate, Datuk Roger Tan Kim Hock (LLB, 1971) who was a member of the Board of Trustees of the Foundation since its inception in 2004, for his generosity, ideas, commitment and passion to charity. The late Datuk Roger Tan was a good friend to the poor and destitute as well as to the corporate tycoons and the Foundation hopes to keep his memory alive by continuing his charitable work.

The scholarship, funded up to MYR4 million, aims to provide full/partial scholarships for Malaysian LSE students needing financial assistance, be they prospective or existing students, with the objective of assisting them to pursue their undergraduate studies at the LSE. 

Eligibility of Applicant

Candidates of the Datuk Roger Tan Memorial Scholarship must fulfil the following requirements:

  • The applicant must be a Malaysian. Proof of financial need is necessary.
  • The applicant must have a conditional or unconditional offer from LSE
  • Applicant can be a prospective or existing student of LSE
  • Good extra curricular records with good command of English. Demonstration of leadership skills through active participation in extra-curricular activities such as sports, clubs and/or community services
  • Applicants must not be in receipt of any other scholarship, study grant or study loan, partial or otherwise, from any educational institutions, government bodies or any other organizations/foundations
  • Recipients of the scholarship are expected to maintain good grades in examination results every year. The Trustees reserve the right to discontinue the scholarship in the event of misconduct (involvement in drugs, police arrest etc) and poor examination results or failures.

Scholarship Value

A full scholarship covers the tuition fees, living expenses, travel costs (flight ticket at commencement and completion of studies), relocation allowance (winter clothes, books, stationeries etc), computer allowance, shipping allowance and the visa fee for the entire 3-year programme. 

For an existing student, the scholarship will cover the tuition fees and living expenses for the remaining years, travel costs (return flight on completion of studies) and shipping allowance only.

A partial scholarship covers the tuition fees, travel costs (flight tickets on commencement and completion of studies), relocation allowance (winter clothes, books, stationeries etc), and the visa fee for the entire 3-year programme. 

For an existing student, the scholarship will cover the tuition fees for the remaining years, travel costs (return flight at the end of study) and shipping allowance only.

*Note: There will be no bonding conditions for the scholarship.

Documents required to be submitted include:

 1. A completed application form Datuk Roger Tan Memorial Scholarship Application Form-May2016

 2. SPM and STPM results or equivalent

 3. Letter of offer from LSE for prospective students

 4. Proof of LSE student status for existing students and examination results

 5. Parents’ income tax returns for the last 3 years

 6. Any testimonial from independent parties to support the application

Application must be received by ECM Libra Foundation by 01 July 2016. Shortlisted applicants are required to attend an interview.

It is the intention of the Trustees to award the scholarship, whether full or partial, to one student a year
