Grade requirements

In order to be classified (i.e. complete) the LSE100 course you must achieve a pass mark for both portfolio assessments.

For each piece of work, you will be awarded a numerical mark out of 100 and an overall grade (e.g., 65% - Merit). Provisional marks and feedback will be provided throughout the year you take the course.

After the Exam Board meets in Summer Term, you will receive your final grade for the course, which will be listed at the top of your transcript.  Your grade will be calculated as the total of the marks you have received for the summative assessments and awarded as follows:

Distinction: 70 -100

Merit: 60 - 69

Pass: 40 - 59

Fail: 39 or below

Progression and degree classification

Students’ marks on LSE100 do not affect progression into their second or third years and do not affect their degree classification but will be displayed on their transcripts.

LSE100 Prizes

All students who receive an overall Distinction will be honoured in a public awards ceremony in Michaelmas Term 2017. In addition, the two students with the highest marks overall for the course will receive the Worcester Prize for outstanding academic performance. These awards are endowed by Sir Robert Worcester, founder of MORI, visiting Professor of Government at the LSE, and patron of LSE100.
