Season ticket loans

IMPORTANT - CHRISTMAS CLOSURE 2014

Please note that the deadline for ordering season tickets is 11th December 2014 if you wish to receive your ticket before the Christmas closure.

Also, ticket prices are set to increase by a minimum of 3.5% starting from 2nd January 2015. Therefore, we strongly advise you to order a ticket with a start date of 1st January 2015 or earlier to avoid the additional cost.

Applications may be made by any full-time or part-time member of staff of the School for a loan to cover the cost of a second class season ticket for travel between home and the School.

Buying an annual season ticket is generally cheaper than purchasing monthly or weekly tickets, with some rail operators offering an annual ticket for the equivalent price of 40 weekly tickets.

The School caters for three different types of tickets:

  • Standard Travelcards
(paper tickets for train networks and/or Transport for London travelcards)
  • Oyster Travelcards
(a swipe card system for Transport for London travelcards only)
  • Bus Pass or other Travelcards
    (public and private travel networks)

Who is eligible?

In order to qualify for a season ticket loan:

  1. Staff must have completed at least 3 months' continuous service
  2. The loan must not exceed the duration of the contract

Fixed-term staff with less than 12 months remaining until the end of their contract can still take advantage of the scheme. The options available under these circumstances are:

  • Request a shorter season ticket
  • Request a 12 month ticket, but pay the balance over the remainder of the contract

The school will assess each application for season ticket loans on an individual basis and has the right not to issue the loan.

All tickets will be subject to a £2 one-off administration charge, which will be deducted from your pay when you make the first instalment on your season ticket loan.

To enable staff to receive their tickets by the start date, it is recommended that applications are submitted at least 10 working days before the start of the new ticket.

Season ticket loans in excess of £10,000 are classed as a benefit in kind, and will be taxed accordingly.

N.B. Please do not pre-purchase your ticket, as payments direct to employees will not be made.

Also, please note cheque requests are no longer permitted for the purchase of standard travelcards or oyster travelcards.
