Global satellite industry must invest in safety
10 April 2015 | Financial Times | Jill Stuart
In 2007 the Sri Lankan government noticed that propaganda for the Tamil Tigers, the rebel group, was being broadcast regionally from an Intelsat satellite over the Indian Ocean. This was not an unconventional business arrangement between the US satellite communications company and the rebels, but the result of a cyber attack. Two years earlier, Tamil fighters had hacked the satellite and proceeded to use its signal sporadically for their own political purposes.
