LSE vs BBC round 2: film-makers criticised after Tommy Robinson attends lecture
The Independent, 28/10/2013, p.24, Simon Hooper
A new dispute has erupted between the London School of Economics (LSE) and the BBC, after former English Defence League (EDL) leader Tommy Robinson turned up unannounced to a lecture on human rights in the Muslim world with a cameraman making a documentary for the corporation.

How to plan for care costs
The Sunday Express, 27/10/2013, p.7, Harvey Jones
The Care Bill, currently going through Parliament, will set a cap on the maximum lifetime contribution anybody has to make towards care home costs, expected to be £72,000 from 2016. But it won’t offer any protection to the estimated 340,000 elderly people who pay for help in their own home, even if they spend more than £72,000 in total, the London School of Economics has warned. It says only 22,000 people a year will benefit from the cap.

The group found the safest place to stay at night was usually the local jail, much to the amusement of the jailers. The hazardous 1,200-mile journey was filmed by a London School of Economics student called Christopher Nolan, good practice for making larger-than-life epics such as Memento and the recent Batman trilogy.
Universities' £10bn pension deficit may add £1,000 to fees
Daily Mail, 26/10/2013, p.28, Sarah Harris
Professor Craig Calhoun, director of the London School of Economics, said the size of the scheme’s black hole was concerning. ‘It’s very worrying now and it looks even more worrying for the future,’ he said. ‘It would be an added cost that we would have to cover either from tuition fees or some other source, either philanthropy or earnings from consulting or other enterprises.’

Do natural teachers need qualifications?
The Daily Telegraph, 26/10/2013, p.31, Ben Riley-Smith
He singles out a recent hiring to make his point – a university lecturer who has agreed to teach A Level psychology alongside his main job. Dr Simon Hampton’s CV is difficult to fault: a first-class degree from the London School of Economics; a PhD from Durham; a decade lecturing at the University of East Anglia and a handful of academic articles to his name. He is just the type of desirable teacher that the free school system can attract, believes Dr Evans.
