Beyond the confusion, a decisive shift
Kathimerini, Greece, 06/10/2013
Professor Kevin Featherstone contrasts the confusion and errors over the arrest of the Golden Dawn leaders in Greece with what the arrests might signify more generally: a decisive shift against the Neo-Nazi party and the greater confidence of the mainstream parties.

Why we should nurture "Googles" of tomorrow
The Sunday Telegraph, 06/10/2013, p.4, Archie Norman
Controversially John Kay, the eminent professor at the London School of Economics, argues that the real rate of innovation has slowed. He draws on research showing that “breakthrough” technologies create a short period of strong growth but thereafter changes are incremental.

Red Ralph, the Miliband I knew at the LSE
The Sunday Times, 06/10/2013, p.21, Tom Bower
Occasionally between 1967 and 1969 I would listen to Ralph Miliband speaking at the London School of Economics. Although I was studying law at the LSE and Miliband’s lectures were about politics and sociology, his opinions were attractive to a generation of students opposed to the American war in Vietnam and disconcerted by the growing influence of multinational corporations and the oppressive dictatorship of international capitalism.
She's got the world of fashion firmly in her clutch bag
The Sunday Times, 06/10/2013, p.6, Claudia Croft
A straight case of nepotism you might think but Delphine, a mother of one, is a force to be reckoned with. She studied at the EDHEC Business School in France and at the London School of Economics and has been a member of the board at LVMH since 2003. In 2001 she became commercial director at Dior. While there she had to ensure that it survived the damage unleashed by John Galliano’s anti-semitic outbursts.
Moritz Erhardt: the tragic death of a City intern
The Observer, 06/10/2013, p.14, Elizabeth Day
His studies certainly never suffered. After school, he turned down a place at the London School of Economics, choosing instead to study at the WHU-Otto Beisheim School of Management in Vallendar, Germany, because it was more affordable (his degree was partly funded by the state, partly by an alumni bursary). He attended the University of Michigan for a term as part of an exchange programme. At Vallendar, he had his eye on a career in management consultancy before possibly doing some charity work.

Letters: Miliband the Marxist
The Daily Telegraph, 05/10/2013, p.25, Unattributed
SIR – If Ralph Miliband (Letters, October 3) did love Britain he certainly tried to do his utmost to undermine the society that makes it such a loveable land. I was almost the only non-Leftie in the social studies department in the University of Leeds in the mid-Sixties. Harold Hobson once wrote that, if a revolution took place in Britain, while the thinking might come from the London School of Economics, the dynamism would certainly come from Leeds University.

A very British Marxist - and his son
Open Democracy (Web), 06/10/2013, Unattributed
I went to the London School of Economics (LSE), where Ralph Miliband taught, in 1965 to study sociology. While at school, I had been involved in Labour politics in the Newcastle-under-Lyme constituency of Stephen Swingler, a left-wing MP who had been prominent in the Victory for Socialism movement within the party. At LSE, I moved rapidly to the left in opposition to the Labour government’s backing for the United States's war in Vietnam, its anti-trade-union policies and the appeasement of racism in its immigration policies.

Jesus and Mohammed T-shirts banned: victory for the 'sanctimonious little prigs' of LSE's student union
Telegraph Blogs (Blog), 05/10/2013, p.1, Unattributed
There’s a row going on at the London School of Economics (LSE) after two atheist students were banned from wearing a T-shirt which depicted the Prophet Mohammed and Jesus. The pair were told by student union apparatchiks they would have to leave the university’s societies fair unless they covered up the t-shirts, which carried a cartoon from the website Jesus and Mo, because they were “provocative”.

LSE Students Outrage After They Are Told To Cover Up 'Offensive' Jesus And Mohammed T-Shirts
The Huffington Post, 05/10/2013
Richard Dawkins has expressed outrage after an LSE student society were forced to cover-up their T-shirts which had cartoon depictions of Jesus and the Prophet Mohammad. Members of the LSESU Atheist, Secularist and Humanist Student Society at the university's Fresher's Fair were wearing t-shirts with the controversial 'Jesus and Mo' cartoons. Student Union officials demanded the students remove the t-shirts, and several other pieces of literature, because there had been complaints from offended passers-by.

Saif Gaddafi's lawyer concerned for her safety after kidnap of nephew
Telegraph (Web), 04/10/2013, Colin Freeman
Saif, who studied at the London School of Economics, is facing trial in the western city of Zintan, where he has been in prison since being captured by a local militia in November 2011. In a sign of the growing political factionalism now gripping Libya, the Zintan militia commanders have refused requests to hand him over to the central government in Tripoli, claiming that Gaddafi “remnants” in the judiciary might try to declare him innocent.

Start-ups in Europe: Scoring with diversity
