Elite's grip on US bonds lays bare fiscal divide
Financial Times, 15/11/2013, p.36, Gillian Tett
Sandy Hager, a postdoctoral research fellow at the London School of Economics, has recently crunched through the historical data. This research suggests that if you look at the “publicly held” US government bond markets (ie the parts not held by another US government agency, such as the Fed), foreign ownership of federal bonds has risen from around 5 per cent in 1970 to 55 per cent today, at the expense of US households and business.

Free Exchange: Holding on for tomorrow
The Economist, 15/11/2013, p.80
In a 2007 paper Nick Bloom of Stanford University, Stephen Bond of Oxford and John Van Reenen of the London School of Economics showed one means of avoiding this “reverse causality”. They took data for a sample of 672 British manufacturing firms between 1972 and 1991, and turned to stock-price volatility as their measure of uncertainty.

Unrest as Saudi Arabia expels foreign workers
The Guardian (Australia) -15/11/2013
Foreign workers are also blamed for so-called "morality crimes" such as drug use, prostitution and alcohol production and supply, said Dr Madawi Al-Rasheed, a visiting professor at the Middle East Centre at the London School of Economics and Political Science. "Saudi society continues to entertain the illusion that it is pious, conservative and God-abiding and can only be corrupted by foreigners," she wrote on Thursday in the journal Al-Monitor.
