Illegal immigrants cost taxpayer 'up to £3.7bn a year'
The Times, 01/11/2013, p.19, Richard Ford
Illegal immigrants are costing the taxpayer up to an estimated £4,250 each in the value of the public services they use each year, according a Home Office report published yesterday. The figure means that the total cost to taxpayers could be an estimated £3.1 billion based on a London School of Economic study suggesting that the number of illegal immigrants in the UK could be 725,000.

Our £3.7bn a year bill for illegal immigrants' health and education
Daily Mail, 01/11/2013, p.19, Jack Doyle
The estimate is far from a complete analysis of immigrants to the UK, and does not include other costs or what indirect taxes they may pay such as VAT. The total number of illegal immigrants in the country was estimated by a London School of Economic research paper. It put the total number of irregular – or illegal – migrants at 618,000, but said it could be as high as 863,000 or as low as 417,000.

Rape victims 'bear a moral responsibility'
The Times, 01/11/2013, p.14, Danielle Sheridan
Ms Hewson, 52, made the comments in a debate on the subJect that was held at the London School of Economics this week, where she said that a distinction needed to be made between "legal responsibility and moral responsibility".

Victims can be to blame for rape, says lawyer
The Daily Telegraph, 01/11/2013, p.13, Matthew Payton
Miss Hewson made her outspoken comments in a debate on the subject at the LSE earlier this week, saying: “We need to make a distinction between legal responsibility and moral responsibility. “The law does not attribute any responsibility now to the victim of rape whereas traditionally we know the judge would say when they came to sentence ‘well she was contributorally (sic) negligent’ or something like that.”

High prices leave students homeless: can you afford to live at uni?
guardian.co.uk (Web), 31/10/2013, Abby Youngpowell Libby Page
Students with surnames traditionally associated with wealth, such as Darcy, Mandeville, Percy and Montgomery, have dominated Oxbridge for the past 800 years, according to research conducted by the London School of Economics. Researchers, Dr Neil Cummins and Professor Gregory Clark, worry about what this says about social mobility. Cummins says: "Surnames such as Baskerville, Darcy, Mandeville and Montgomery are still over-represented at Oxbridge, and also among elite occupations such as medicine, law and politics.
