Pulled punches spare Osborne
Financial Times, 23/05/2013, p.2, Claire Jones; chris Giles; George Parker
“It almost never happens that there is explicit criticism of a large country [in the Article IV consultations]. These are very political documents where they have to be very cautious,” said John van Reenen, the director of the Centre for Economic Performance at the London School of Economics who met fund officials during their fortnight in the UK. “Privately, fund officials are more critical. But they’ve got to walk a thin line.”

Evening Standard, 22/05/2013, p.4, Mark Blunden
High property prices are creating record numbers of London households with assets worth more than £1 million. A new study called Wealth in the UK and based on London School of Economics data, found that 10 per cent of homes have total wealth of at least £967,200. It means that despite the economic slump there are about 2.5 million “millionaire households” in Britain.

One British household in every 10 now has total assets exceeding £1m, according to a new book based on work by researchers at the London School of Economics.
