Paul Soros Shipping magnate and philanthropist
The Independent, 25/06/2013, p.50, Martin Childs
He began to study engineering at the University of Budapest and was picked for the 1948 Winter Olympic ski team. He was carrying a leg injury but hid this. En route to Switzerland via Austria, he defected, eventually arriving in the US. George had fled earlier, spending time in London and at the London School of Economics before moving across the Atlantic. They were reunited in 1956.

Diary: So the Met dug dirt on the Stephen Lawrence campaigners. But it wasn't alone
The Guardian, 25/06/2013, p.29, Hugh Muir
Finally, time to check in again on the anti-EU group being formed by Professor Alan Sked, in despair at the rightward lurch of the monster he created, Ukip. Those who may follow him – and there are many of them – know the professor to be a serious fellow. But not too serious. We hear accounts of an extraordinary undergrad revue at the London School of Economics in the 80s.

Photos that are gone in a flash
Metro, 25/06/2013, p.12, Hayden Smith
Technology law expert Andrew Murray, from the London School of Economics, said the biggest potential challenge to authorities would be in serious bullying cases. He said that while police could normally retrieve any offending images quickly and cheaply from a victim’s computer or device, with Snapchat they might need to employ ‘costly and time consuming forensic recovery techniques’. He said: ‘This is worrying. It could lead to a new form of bullying and harassment which is very difficult to prevent without the application of extensive resources.’

“For the first time, these could be genuine ‘European’ elections, the outcome of which will shape European politics for at least the next five years,” said Simon Hix, professor of European governance at the London School of Economics. “It will be the first time we, as European citizens, can choose who holds the most powerful executive office in the E.U.”
