Complaints about cold calls treble
The Daily Telegraph, 18/07/2013, p.3, Steve Hawkes
Ministers were last night urged to launch an unprecedented overhaul of the regulations governing "nuisance calls" as complaints treble to nearly 460 a day. The London School of Economics said current rules were stacked in the favour of spammers bombarding homes with cold calls and marketing messages. And it called for changes to the rules designed to protect customers, nearly 60 per cent of whom claim they no longer want to answer their own telephone. The LSE said: "While the costs to offending companies for making such calls is dropping, the negative impact on society, the economy and individuals is increasing."

Appointments - London School of Economics Stuart Corbridge
Times Higher Education, 18/07/2013, p.22
The scholar who will take on the new role of provost and deputy director of the London School of Economics has described the appointment as a “great honour”. Professor Corbridge, who is currently professor of international development and pro-director for research and external relations at the LSE, observed that any new role had an “element of stepping into the unknown” but added that the institution was clear about what it wanted.

Britain is recreating a rentier society fit for a baby royal
Financial Times, 18/07/2013, p.11, Chris Giles
The problem is that these assets are far from evenly spread, being concentrated in older households in southern England. As Professor John Hills of the London School of Economics has demonstrated, while income inequality has been relatively stable for the past 20 years, the boom in house prices since the mid-1990s has caused the absolute difference in wealth between the more and less wealthy to shoot up. “It would now take many more years of saving for someone with a middle income to increase their wealth from near the bottom to the middle than it would have done in the early 1990s,” he concludes.

The Left talks gibberish while Cameron racks up successes
The Daily Telegraph, 18/07/2013, p.18, Peter Oborne
Let’s look at local government, where spending in England is down between 15 and 20 per cent. Tony Travers, a well-regarded expert from the respectable part of the London School of Economics, told me yesterday that “most people in most streets wouldn’t be able to tell the difference”.
