Free universities are a short-term winner - which is all Nats need
The Daily Telegraph (Scotland)*, 20/02/2013, p.9, Alan Cochrane
It was Murdo Fraser, also from the Tory front bench, who made easily the most telling attack on Mr Russell. He said that blue-chip establishments like Oxford, Cambridge and the London School of Economics all had a better record of admitting students from poorer backgrounds than the likes of Edinburgh and St Andrews.

Indian students encouraged to study in the UK under scholarships at a top London university
Mail Online UK (Web), 19/02/2013, Martin Robinson

The London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE) said it will be offering 50 scholarships for Indian postgraduates, starting this autumn. The announcement comes the day after Prime Minister David Cameron used a visit to India to insist that there is 'no limit' on the number of Indians who can study at UK universities, or take up graduate-level jobs after qualifying.

The Silence of Animals
Telegraph (Web), 19/02/2013, Unattributed
Who could possibly object to such a benevolent vision? Well, the political philosopher John Gray, for a start. Gray, whose academic career included professorships at the London School of Economics, Oxford, Harvard and Yale, is a critic of the neo-liberal philosophy that proposes that advances in human scientific knowledge will necessarily be accompanied by equivalent progress in ethics and politics.

The Economist (Web), 19/02/2013, Unattributed
No doubt if he was forced to live as new immigrants do in Newham, where 47% of households live with more than 1.5 residents per bedroom, he might be less keen on population density. As Henry Overman, of the London School of Economics, points out , London is simply running out of space. In a city of 8m people, there are just 24,000 long-term empty homes. Most unused "brownfield" land is in and around northern cities, where housing is still cheap.
