Asset prices: Not fully inflated
The Economist, 07/12/2013, p.79, Unattributed
Dimitri Vayanos and Paul Woolley of the London School of Economics have suggested that problems of agency contribute to bubbles. Investors do not buy shares directly but hire fund managers to do it on their behalf. They tend to select managers who have performed well in prior years.

London to a brick: property in crisis
Australian Financial Review, 06/12/13, Unattributed
Nevertheless, with the domestic market showing signs of recovery too, it is important to remember that prime resales are only a part of the story. “I can see how foreigners are driving prime but I’m not so sure that this drives the rest of the market,” says Henry Overman of the London School of Economics. Credit is flowing again to domestic buyers and demand is picking up. Moreover, prime rents are actually starting to see a slight decline, suggesting that we may have reached a limit of sorts.

Islamic ethical values praised at House of Commons reception
The Muslim Times, 06/12/13, Rafiq A. Tschannen
The speech marked the culmination of a six-part lecture series on the importance of a values-based approach to financial services from Fajr Capital and the London School of Economics. Islamic finance abides by sharia law principles and is closely aligned with a lot of the sentiments followed by traditional ethical funds.

Vote online – the Speaker’s plan to revive politics
UK Nigeria Online, 06/12/13, Unattributed
Estonians can vote on a computer using their national identity card to ensure security, or via mobile phone with a Pin code. Analysis by the London School of Economics found that between 10 and 15 per cent of online voters would probably not have cast ballots without this option, because it made voting faster and cheaper. However, it also concluded that the change had not necessarily boosted turnout.

German Minimum Wage Accord Seen Risking Job Cuts That Foil Aims
BusinessWeek, 05/12/13, Rainer Buergin and Scott Hamilton
“It improves the living standards of people who are working, working hard in many cases, and it doesn’t seem to harm their job prospects,” Alan Manning, professor of economics at the London School of Economics, said in a Dec. 3 interview. “When it was first being proposed in the U.K. there were people arguing this was going to destroy hundreds of thousands of jobs -- sometimes it went into the millions -- and that just very obviously didn’t happen.”

UK unis raise funds on capital markets
The Australian, 05/12/13, Unattributed
THE LONDON School of Economics has borrowed £125 million ($230 million) from investors to redevelop its campus, following a fashion for universities tapping capital markets to fund their expansion. The LSE borrowed from three large life assurance companies for between 15 and 40 years. It comes after the first foray into the capital markets last year by the University of Cambridge, which raised $630m with a 40-year bond to help to finance its second campus.
