As violence and unrest continues to escalate in Egypt, can a long-term crisis be avoided?
City AM, 16/08/2013, p.15, Unattributed
Unless steps are taken to diffuse the crisis, Egypt will descend into long-term bloodshed. We may be in for a repeat of the violent insurgency seen in Egypt during the 1990s. Dr Fawaz Gerges is professor of Middle Eastern politics and international relations at the London School of Economics..

The Economist (Web), 15/08/2013, Unattributed
There are around 160 BIDs in Britain, ten of them in Birmingham. As Tony Travers, an expert in local government at the London School of Economics, puts it, “Businesses are more than willing to vote for taxation when they control what it gets spent on.”

Here's how to avoid thousands in tax - don't buy a house
The Daily Telegraph, 16/08/2013, p.22, Matthew Sinclair
You would not be alone in responding to high stamp duty rates by moving less. An LSE study of the most recent duty “holiday” found that a 1 per cent cut in the tax increased the number of transactions by 20 per cent. Most of those extra transactions were genuine, not just people moving a month or two earlier or later due to the temporary tax break.

It’s time to make A-level results public again. Keeping them secret is patronising and unhelpful

By the time offers were released in January, the “Cambridge applicants for 2013 Entry” thread had notched up 21,212 posts. No sooner had Ucas notifications landed in our inboxes than Facebook groups sprang up – “Bristol Freshers 2013-2014”, “LSE Offer Holders – 2013 Entry”, “Magdalen College Incoming Class 2013”.
