A-level reforms will reduce access, say vice-chancellors
The Independent On Sunday, 11/08/2013, p.14, James Cusick
In the survey, to which 22 of the top 50 universities responded, a majority also agreed that AS-levels were a better indicator of future success than GCSE results, the prediction of grades or the use of admissions tests. With elite Russell Group universities such as Oxford, Cambridge and the London School of Economics all taking part, the results cannot be dismissed by the DfE as unrepresentative.

Fall in wages puts Britain in Europe's bottom four
The Independent On Sunday, 11/08/2013, p.2, James Cusick
Britain's two main EU competitors, France and Germany, both showed increases in real wage levels. Professor John Van Reenen, director of the Centre for Economic Performance at the London School of Economics, described the fall in real wages in the UK as "stunning - and something that did not happen in previous postwar recessions in Britain".

Put hated stamp duty to a worthy cause
The Daily Telegraph, 10/08/2013, p.10, Andrew Oxlade
But does it really distort behaviour? A fascinating but little-noticed research paper published last year by the Spatial Economics Research Centre, part of the London School of Economics, provides an interesting take. The study showed that raising stamp duty from 1pc to 3pc reduced household mobility by around 40pc, so the tax is not just on house buyers but also on businesses.
