We know our place in modern Britain, and it's no longer where it used to be
The Times, 04/04/2013, p.7, Jack Malvern
The Great British Class Survey, masterminded by Professor Mike Savage of the London School of Economics and Professor Fiona Devine of the University of Manchester, was primarily conducted on the BBC’s website, although the study took in other sources to ensure that it represented all of Britain.

Letters: Make-work-pay economics and poor-law politics
The Guardian, 04/04/2013, p.35, Unattributed
The paradox of the coalition government's claim that it will make work pay is that for a substantial section of the labour force it is locking in place a system which ensures that work may never pay…

Family, not area, is key to a child's education
Daily Mail, 04/04/2013, p.7, Andrew Levy
Dr Felix Weinhardt, who conducted the research, said: ‘We have always tried to help the most disadvantaged children to get better life chances and one of the ways we thought we could do this is through housing policy. ‘But research now increasingly tells us that bad neighbourhood environments have no causal influence on these children’s school performances at all.’ The postdoctoral fellow in the London School of Economics’ Centre for Economic Performance added: ‘These two groups of students really get very bad grades - very similar to students who live in high-density social housing neighbourhoods and never moved.

Classing Britain: why defining social status is so difficult
guardian.co.uk (Web), 03/04/2013, Mona Chalabi Ami Sedghi
Professor Mike Savage from the London School of Economics (LSE), one of the authors of the survey, was reluctant to rely on this in the research claiming that "our economy and our lifestyles have changed profoundly since these categories were invented so this may no longer hold true." However, the online calculator does use professional titles when asking 'which of these people do you know socially?' This in turn, has several problems of its own.
