Experts urge Osborne to make U-turn on austerity
The Daily Telegraph, 16/08/2012, p.1, Philip Aldrick; Rosa Prince
GEORGE Osborne has been urged to abandon his austerity plans and boost infrastructure spending to rescue the economy by a group of top economists who backed his deficit cutting plans just two years ago. Of the signatories, Roger Bootle, managing director of Capital Economics, and Danny Quah, professor at the London School of Economics, said they had changed their minds.

Experts attack Osborne over austerity plan
The Guardian, 16/08/2012, p.1, Larry Elliott
Tim Besley, economics professor at the London School of Economics and a former member of the Bank of England's monetary policy committee, said: "I would prefer to see government resources used in a targeted way and there may be creative ways of using the government balance sheet. I am particularly keen to have more focus on housing in the near term."

Boris on the runway
The Times, 16/08/2012, p.1, Sam Coates
I hate to say it, but Boris is right. Our leaders are fiddling while the economy burns
Daily Mail, 16/08/2012, p.14, Daniel Johnson
For Britain is no longer merely competing with our neighbours across the Channel - and in a globalised economy, workers in the West are becoming increasingly uncompetitive. The extent of this was laid bare in a recent presentation to the London School of Economics by Jon Moynihan, chairman of PA Consulting, a management consultancy that operates in 30 countries.

THE Scholarly Web
Times Higher Education, 16/08/2012
Writing for the London School of Economics' Impact of Social Sciences blog, Sarah-Louise Quinnell, e-learning project lead at the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy, expresses her support for the growing acceptance of blogs as legitimate academic sources, even to the extent that they can be referenced in PhD theses. She also suggests ways that doctoral candidates can reference blogs without appearing to place more emphasis on them than on traditional academic journals.
