  1. How do I get permission for an art project, exhibition or music initiative to be held in an LSE public space?

The School encourages arts and music initiatives by staff and students. If you are planning a project, exhibition or musical event in an LSE public space| you first need to submit a proposal for approval from the Arts Advisory Group. The School will seek to approve events that:

  • complement the academic objectives of LSE as a School of the social sciences;
  • enhance the student and staff experience; and
  • are logistically and financially practical.

The School may be unable to approve some proposals if they do not meet the above criteria, as decided by the advisory group. LSE has a relatively small campus with limited space available and thus needs to manage competing priorities. We hope you will bear this in mind.

If you are planning an event in a non-public space (departmental offices, closed meeting rooms, halls of residences etc) and would like guidance on funding please visit Funding and donations|.

  1. Can I receive funding for an initiative?

Regrettably, the School has very limited resources for arts and music initiatives. See Funding and donations| for possible ways to source money.

Please note - if you intend to use one of the School's public spaces| for your initiative then you must first ask for approval from the Arts Advisory Group.

  1. How do I submit a proposal?

If you plan to use a public space within the School, please submit a proposal |to the Arts Advisory Group by emailing arts@lse.ac.uk|. All completed proposal forms must contain the following information:

  • Detailed description of event or project envisioned
  • Objective/ rationale behind plans
  • Target audience
  • Expected benefits to the School
  • Key people involved
  • Timings (when you want the event to take place, duration etc)
  • Estimated budget and source of funding
  • Any links with academic agendas/ topical issues

The Arts Advisory Group meets once a term and will consider all proposals then. If you need urgent permission, please note this on your bid and we will endeavour to reply as soon as possible.

All proposals will be assessed against certain key institutional objectives, the intrinsic merit of the work and other criteria linking to the academic values and activity here at the School. Proposals should also show logistical and financial practicability.

     4.     How do I give money to the School to support arts and music?

If you are interested in donating funds to promote arts and musical events at the School, or would like to support a specific project, please contact the Arts Assistant at arts@lse.ac.uk|

     5.     I would like to donate some art to the School. How do I do this?

Please see Guidelines for donating works of art| (PDF).
