To Be Free

To be free_476x357

This picture was submitted by Audrey Cherryl Mogan, a graduate student in the Sociology Department.

How the photo relates to the theme of 'risk':

"The struggle to love and the struggle for freedom are intrinsically intertwined. To free ourselves from the shackles that bind us and to share exquisite joy that neither smothers nor shuns. The photograph was inspired by the Leonard Cohen song, 'Bird on a Wire' - the story of a man whose quest for freedom blinds him to the love around him. It relates to the theme of risk because Love and Freedom, and the quest for the delicate balance between them - is the greatest and most important risk we, as humans, can ever take."
