Last Caretaker at Ancient Tibetan Sacred Caves

Last Caretaker at Ancient Tibetan Sacred Caves_476x319

This picture was submitted by Sally Walkerman, a graduate student in the Anthropology Department.

How the photo relates to the theme of 'risk':

"Sometimes simply standing still is an act of risk. This monk is a caretaker at the incredible mountain hermitage Drak Yerpa, one of the most sacred retreat sites in Tibet. In the face of ever-increasing pressure and surveillance, he remains, risking - and navigating - a complicated space at the intersection of religion and politics."
