Kyrgyzstan is a small, mountainous country, with two thirds of its 5 million population living in the country side. Half of the rural population in Kyrgyzstan are poor. They are unable to meet their basic needs in food and clothing and have limited access to transport, clean running water, sanitation and other essential services.
