06 Prayers at the Border

This picture was taken by Bo Ruan from the Office of Development and Alumni Relations. It was taken in the Demilitarized Zone, South Korea in July 2012.

The end of the Korean war resulted in an impenetrable barrier known as the Demilitarized Zone (DMZ).  Families were suddenly and violently split and forever forbidden to contact those across the border.  People leave prayers on ribbons at the barbed wire fences for family members they have not heard from for more than 50 years and have no idea if they are still alive.
