05 A Smile is Worth a Thousand Words

A-Smile-is-Worth-a-Thousand-Words_477

This picture was taken by Roberta Cucchiaro, a postgraduate student from the department of International History. It was taken in Beijing, China in October 2010.

I took this picture when thousands of Chinese people gathered in Tiananmen Square to celebrate 61 years from the foundation of the People’s Republic of China (founded 1st October 1949). On this day thousands of people gather in the famous square to see the rising of the Chinese flag to the rhythm of the Chinese national anthem and admire a beautiful sunrise. This girl in the photo is sitting on her dad’s shoulders and immensely proud of her country. All the efforts she does, she does them with a smile upon her face.
