This picture was taken by Coline Houssais, a postgraduate student from the Department of International Relations. It was taken in a Mountain village in the Çanakkale region, Turkey in August 2009.
As in many socities, Turkish un-married women dance in turn with the bride on the day of her wedding. This wedding took place on the village's school playground. It was very interesting to see the implicit allocation of public space according to gender, marital status and age. I took this picture because I loved the colours, the contrast between the two women dancing and the two women watching. Not to mention the fact that a man could only see the scene through the eye of his camera.
