04 Thinking reeds

Thinking reeds

This picture was taken by Alexandre Grcic Dalyac an undergraduate student from the Department of Economic History. It was taken in September 2010 on the Cyclades Islands in Greece.

The wind is blowing, and the frail reeds bend while the window frame's stiff geometry stands strong. As Pascal said, the reed may bend, but it does not break. What is the window frame's claim to power worth, if it cannot bend and tune itself to the elements? One day it will shatter, and the reeds will remain.
